Is this tool really free?

Created on 2005-07-11 by Rainer Gerhards.

AliveMon is free - to a certain degree. Some people expect every software to be free, some others are deeply concerned when they come across a free software. With AliveMon, Adiscon hopes to provide a good balance between the need to fund the development and the ability to contrinute to the computing community.

With AliveMon, you can monitor a single system (server, router or whatever) totally free. This should enable most private persons and even small businesses to use the tool without any cost. We think, however, that those who purchased or rented multiple servers should also contribute a little to funding the development. We offer very reasonable prices. And we also allow you to tailor your license purchase very precisely to what you really need.

So the tool is not 100% free for all purposes, but in many cases, you do not need to spend any money. Now, does this mean you have to endure spyware or other evil software? No! Not the least. Adiscon is in business since 1988 and is a well-respected company. We are trying hard to deliver good value and service to our customers. It is our firm policy that we will never bundle any non-Adiscon software with our products and it is also our firm policy that we will never create spyware (or similar malware) ourselfs. So with Adiscon, you can be assured that you only install what you intend to install.

We hope the compromise between providing a totally free solution and the need to fund development is a good one for you. If you have any feedback on this policy, please let us know.
